PNC – 2023 $1 Aussie Big Things – The Big Pineapple

Description

Opened in 1971, the 16-metre-high, two-level Big Pineapple is one of Australia’s most treasured Big Things and was added to Queensland’s Heritage Register in 2009. The gigantic fruit is located at Nambour Connection Road, Woombye, in the Sunshine Coast region. The shell of the main body is formed of fibreglass supported by a steel frame. The structure is divided into two levels for the purpose of exhibiting displays about the pineapple industry and for accessing the viewing platform above. Included in the Big Pineapple Park are a TreeTop Challenge, the Big Pineapple Train, a zoo and the annual Big Pineapple Music Festival, which is held at the nearby Big Pineapple Fields.
