Itchy and Scratchy is basically a fairy tale within a fairy tale. It is an animated series about the adventures of a mouse and a cat that is often watched by Bart and Lisa Simpson. It is a parody of traditional cat and mouse cartoons, particularly referring to Tom and Jerry. The animation usually features exaggerated and violent slapstick humor, in which the mouse(Itchy) causes harm to the cat(Scratchy) in various gruesome and ingenious ways, often ending in Scratchy’s death.

The reverse of the silver coin introduces us to the title board, which begins the series. Here we see the likenesses of both heroes and the red title of the series. At the bottom is the signature of Matt Groening, the series’ creator. The obverse shows the classic right profile of Queen Elizabeth II. Around it is information about the weight and the sample of silver used to make the coin. The coin has a face value of one Australian dollar and is legal tender in the country.
